New ZealandHere we go again; ready to announce a new location for the next Drop Me Anywhere trip. I haven’t even finished the last one but, as the voting is now closed, we’ll move on quickly. This month’s vote gave you the choice of traveling to Australia or New Zealand with three choices of locations in each and, of course, our wild-card “Other” category.
With nearly 80% of the votes, you left no doubt that you want to travel to New Zealand (sorry Australia). Why? Perhaps you’ve heard of the beauty, or maybe you’re curious about Kiwis. I just found out that it’s not just a fruit, but also a bird! I also discovered that Sir Edmund Hilary, one of the first two men to summit Mount Everest, was a Kiwi (not the fruit or the bird, but the nickname for the citizen). Or maybe you just have some strange Hobbit fetish (um, I’m a travel writer but I think you might need a psychiatrist). Whatever the reason, we’ll travel there within two weeks. More specifically, we’ll head to Auckland, which is located in the northern of the two islands of New Zealand.
But wait, there’s more . . . As I think there might be much to see in the north island, we’ll travel around a bit and see what we see. I’ll attempt to spot a Kiwi (the bird), find out if there was an Old Zealand, and maybe go Hobbit spotting. Please let me know if there’s anything specific you wish to see or do, and I’ll try to get there and tell you about it.
In the meantime, we’ll finish up our last few days in Vietnam – traveling to Halong Bay and Hanoi – before heading to Kuala Lumpur to spend a week or so catching up and resting up.
Thanks to all who voted and also for those who came along on our Vietnam trip making it a record month for Drop Me Anywhere. I hope you learned more about this fascinating place. Don’t forget to tune in for those last few articles (you can subscribe at the bottom of this page or on the right side) and check out Rebel-With-A-Cause to read about the amazing volunteer experience I had there.
