Perhaps you’ve always wanted to go somewhere but your partner, spouse, boyfriend, girlfriends, whoever, either doesn’t want to go, can’t go, or simply has commitment issues. (If it’s your partner or spouse, you may have a problem there.) Drop Me Anywhere’s motto is, When you want to travel solo, but not alone.
Welcome to Drop Me Anywhere Tours for Women! What? Women? Apologies, gentlemen, it’s not that you’re not invited but, well, yeh it is. I love you guys; in fact, I’ve loved more than one of you guys (not at the same time). But women are traveling more each year and, as I’m sort of an expert in this area, who better to introduce other women to it?
I‘ve found an abundance of “How to Stay Safe When Traveling Solo” articles targeted at women, often implying that the minute you step out of your neighborhood alone you have a target on your back (or other body part). Why is Budapest more dangerous than Baltimore? Why is Hoi An more dangerous than Hollywood? They’re not. Finally, any married woman who has traveled solo has been asked, “Your husband allows you to travel without him?” Aw, isn’t that precious.
Still, traveling with others can give one a sense of security and sorority and, well, it’s also fun to share some experiences and make new friends. And, as I’ve been a tour guide for 20 years and have traveled to 67 countries, maybe you’ll think about joining me as I’ll be guiding these trips.
By joining a Drop Me Anywhere tour, you’ll enjoy traveling with no more than 20 women (often less). I’ve worked in the travel industry since Stonehenge was built (ok, maybe a few thousand years later) and, besides being a tour guide with some of the larger, long-established tour companies, I am a travel journalist whose work can be seen in CNN Travel, National Geographic, AFAR, Fodor’s, Unearth Women, Trivago Magazine, and easyJet Traveller, among others. Some Drop Me Anywhere tours will visit places I’ve written about.
Besides inviting a variety of women to discover the world, learn about different cultures, make new friends, and overcome fears, Drop Me Anywhere Tours for Women is about empowering women. I’ve seen how travel empowers women, often bringing them out of their comfort zone and showing them they can do more (and enjoy it!) than they thought they could. But DMA is also about empowering other women who own businesses. Women have often been held down (literally and figuratively) by men, and even by other women. No more. I pledge to use women-owned businesses as my suppliers whenever possible.*
What we offer:
Check out our tour offerings which are updated as tours become available and, if you want to join the fun (and why wouldn’t you?), you can complete the tour sign up information form, drop your deposit, and count yourself in.
For updates follow this page to be on our mailing list. Though I don’t spam or share your contact details, you automatically become one of my Virtual Travel Buddies who have traveled virtually with me on the trips and stories from the OG Drop Me Anywhere blog.
Got a pre-made group who would like to travel? While we’ll be globetrotting with no more than 20 people at one time, I aim to start smaller so perhaps your book club, wine group, alumni association, or group of friends or relatives have something in mind. I’d be happy to design and lead the trip for you.
*I’m serious here, with the exception that I won’t sacrifice safety or good service to do this. Also, subject to price and product comparison, and availability.
**Airfare or other transportation to/from the designated tour meeting/departure location is not included. Transportation to included activities while on tour is included from the accommodation or another designated location only with the group. Private transportation is not included unless otherwise noted in the tour.
